CAIRNHILL PLAZA

BRITISH COLONIAL

SINGAPORE COLONIAL

MODERN ART DECO

Cairnhill Plaza has a radial shear wall structural arrangement which makes designing around it extremely difficult. No two lines were parallel or perpendicular in this apartment and our carpenter had to take individual molds for every angle of the house. The difficulty level was similar to building carpentry around a series of curves!

Additionally, the request to merge two opposing styles - British and Singapore Colonial with Modern Art Deco was almost an impossible task. we took on the formal moldings and language of the British Victorian Ethos ( Think Modern Havard Library) and threw in familiar textures like the mosaic tiles reminisce of our local kopitiam in the 60s. We then topped it off with sprinkles of Art Deco Accent like the design of the dining room sliding door and entrance light fittings for a dash of sophistication and modernity.

A MIXPOT OF PAST, PRESENT

AND THE FAMILIAR.
